Are you still growing?
My (now) 13 year old gets excited when he gets “growing pains” in his legs or when his jeans appear shorter. He can’t wait to get taller like his older brother and his greatest fear is being the shortest in his class. This anticipation of growing taller never goes away – but the results occur quite independently of the desire or any input to assist the process! It just happens! (well, perhaps along with good diet/sleep to mention some non-genetic factors!)
As we get older, our growth efforts have to become more intentional to fit in the routine of life whether we are seeking personal or professional growth, whether we have fitness or sport goals, health or wellbeing goals. Sometimes the busy-ness of our family and work routines mean that some goals get put on hold temporarily to support other goals, our own or that of our partner or family. Sometimes we need additional support from someone close to us (a mentor or friend) or someone independent to keep us “honest” with those growth goals.
Three reflection questions for you:-
1) What areas of growth are you giving priority right now?
2) What outcomes are you seeing as a result of that focus? (or not?!)
3) Who is supporting you with that growth, or are you doing it alone?
Executive coaching or mentoring can support (and challenge!) you towards your development goals, providing accountability and support on a regular basis to ensure you keep growing – whether that is in your leadership, your professional goals or your personal ones!
