Following My North Star

Following my own true north, I was inspired by a vision in December last year to step outside of my current organisational system and follow a growing passion to authentically live out my own purpose – all about encouraging, supporting – and challenging, growth.

This followed some months after a Supervision session where I was challenged to revisit and clarify my purpose, in service of some client work I had been reflecting on.

This purpose is common across all contexts I am privileged to work within – from 1:1 coaching with senior executives, emerging leaders, business consulting and the delivery of large leadership development programs.

This purpose is about inspiring growth – what could be more exciting than to step fully into this and continue to work closely with leaders to create such growth as I have done over the last seven years – and most importantly, to support leaders, executives and business owners to create this too for themselves professionally and personally (and their teams and organisations!)

Exploring and getting clearer on my own purpose was an integral part of this vision. Thank you @Ros Tasker for this unexpected twist in my own journey!

From my own true north evolved my new business name –  North Star Leadership.

This name holds inspiration for me on many different levels.  Researching about the North Star in late 2021, I was similarly inspired by a Harvard Business Review article by Professor Prasad Kaipa (2012; with permission) who writes that having a noble purpose – a North Star – gives direction, humility and inspiration, and how our North Star aligns our energy, emotions and actions in service of our vision.

Further, I learned through my research from Kaipa (above) and others that:-

·      The North Star has been used for the purposes of navigation for centuries. It is a compass – the anchor of the northern sky.

·      Acting as a guiding light, people have used its brightness and prominence in the sky to ensure they are travelling in the right direction.

·      It helps those who follow it determine direction.

·      It provides inspiration when the outlook seems bleak or chaotic.

·      It aligns our energy, emotions and action in the service of our vision.

·      Its symbolic meaning depicts a beacon of hope and inspiration.

·      With clarity of purpose and direction, it glows brightly to guide and lead towards a direction that is purposeful; for leaders and those that they lead.

What could be more inspiring than leadership guided by your North Star?!

Your purpose is your North Star of leadership. Our purpose is inspiring growth.
