The words stopped me in my tracks.
“You are an inspiration.”
I had to read them again. And again.
A message from a client, unexpected and undeserved (or so it felt in the moment). It took time to truly land. But when it did, something important clicked back into place.
My purpose — to inspire growth in others — was being reflected back to me. A purpose I named 4.5 years ago, the vision from which North Star Leadership was born.
What struck me most was not the compliment itself, but the familiarity of the feeling. I am inspired every single day by the leaders I work with — their courage, vulnerability, desire to grow, commitment to lead well, and willingness to turn inward, even when it’s uncomfortable. Their readiness to examine mindset, shift perspective, expand their tools, navigate uncertainty, and care for the humans in their charge. Walking alongside them is a privilege that never feels routine.
Inspiration is not a one‑way exchange.
It moves between us — a shared energy that lifts, fuels, and clarifies.
When we allow ourselves to be inspired by others, something shifts:-
Our mindset
Our behaviour
Our relationships
The outcomes we deliver
The way we interact with clients
And even the systems and communities we belong to
That’s the real power of inspiration — a quiet force that changes us from the inside out, and through us, changes the world around us.
Yesterday, on International Women’s Day, a client’s simple words connected me back to my purpose. A reminder that inspiration is an exchange — one that honours both the giver and the receiver.
And today, I want to offer you the same reflection:
Who inspires you?
And who might you be quietly inspiring without even realising it?
Because inspiration isn’t loud.
It doesn’t announce itself.
It simply moves — heart to heart, conversation to conversation, leader to leader — creating more possibility than we often give it credit for.
Take a few minutes to consider the following at the beginning of your week.
Question 1
Who, or what, inspires you, and why?
Question 2
What acknowledgement have you received lately that surprised you?
Question 3
In what ways do you intentionally create environments where others
can grow, stretch, and feel safe to be at their best?
